Please read these terms and conditions carefully before using the online course.

Scope

The online course „Strategic Use of Intellectual Property in Business“ („the Course“) was prepared by order of Ettevõtluse ja Innovatsiooni Sihtasutus (registry code: 90006012, „the Service Provider“ or „Enterprise Estonia“) to give participants the knowledge and skills they need to start using intellectual property strategically in order to achieve the long-term goals of the company. The Course was created in accordance with the Estonian and European legal frameworks and current legal practices. The course includes four modules, each focusing on one of four areas: Biotechnology and Life Science, Engineering, ICT and Software Industry, and Creative Industry. You can complete as many as you consider necessary. While this will vary depending on your pace and level of knowledge, each module could take approximately 18 hours to complete. The Course does not have live sessions but includes materials, videos, and tools (“the Course Materials”) available without time restrictions. You are free to choose the time to take the course and proceed at your own pace. The Course is available in Estonian and English. You can complete the course using a computer, tablet, or phone. The Course content is available for both listening and reading. The Course is available free of charge; no paid subscription or internal purchases are implied.

Terms of Use

The course is designed for adult users with at least a basic understanding of business and intellectual property. The Course is available to both legal entities and private individuals. The Course begins with a basic knowledge test on intellectual property, which you must pass with a score of 70% to be eligible to take the Course. There is no limit on the number of attempts or the materials you can use to take the test.

Course updates

The Course content may (but is not required to) be changed according to changes in laws of Estonia or the European Union or changes in general or judicial practice.

Intellectual Property

All Intellectual Property Rights in the Course itself and the Course Materials, prepared by or according to the order of the Service Provider, remain the intellectual property of the Service Provider. The Course is available under the Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license: Deed - Attribution 4.0 International - Creative Commons. This means you can freely access, share, and adapt the Course Materials for any purpose, provided you credit the Service Provider. It is recommended to credit as follows: Strategic Use of Intellectual Property in Business. (2025). Ettevõtluse ja Innovatsiooni SA. There are no other restrictions on use related to the intellectual property rights of the Service Provider.

Confidentiality

While we strive to maintain a high level of confidentiality, we strongly recommend that you avoid inserting confidential information in the answer fields of the Course. The Service Provider does not accept any liability for the disclosure of confidential information entered in the Course answer fields or anywhere else, and any damage associated with it.

Limitation of liability

The content provided in the Course is for informational and educational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice. While the Course offers insights into the strategic use of intellectual property, including in business contexts and specific sectors, it is not a substitute for professional legal consultation.

Thus, the Service provider does not accept any liability for

  1. any inaccuracy in information provided in the Course or the Course Materials;
  2. any loss of profit or revenue or any other direct or indirect loss arising from implementing the Course advice.

We highly recommend consulting local experts or legal counsel when applying intellectual property strategies to your business or organization.

These Terms and Conditions, and any disputes arising from or in connection with them, are governed by the laws of the Republic of Estonia.

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Course means you accept the changes.
